Pioneering the decarbonization of the cement sector

Aware of its social responsibility, Heidelberg Materials wants to be a pioneer on the road to carbon neutrality in the building materials sector.

This is why the company is committed to offer carbon-neutral concrete by 2050 at the latest. For this, the group relies on a combination of measures – most importantly, the increased use of alternative fuels, alternative secondary cementitious materials (including recycled materials), and carbon capture and usage or storage (CCUS).

To reach carbon neutrality, Heidelberg Materials is investing in the development of a number of capture technologies and has the largest and most advanced mature CCUS portfolio of large-scale projects, led by the Brevik plant which will be the first worldwide large scale Capture project operational already in 2024.
