CCS

An essential technology for hard-to-abate sectors

For the cement market, which is a hard-to-abate CO₂ sector, to reduce its environmental footprint, CCS projects are essential.

Even though Heidelberg Materials and more specifically the Antoing plant have already made significant efforts to reduce their CO₂ emissions, carbon-neutrality cannot be achieved without carbo capture and storage.

The aim of the capture technology is to concentrate the CO₂ present in the flue gas of the cement production process and bring this concentration up to more than 90% so it can be compressed, transported and stored.

While the Anthemis project will focus on the carbon capture process,
collaborations will be established with various partners to create a
complete CO₂ value chain, with the Antoing clinker plant as the kick-starter.
