Heidelberg Materials intends to build a unique and innovative carbon capture unit at its Antoing plant. The so-called Anthemis project (standing for: Antoing Heidelberg Materials Emissions Integrated Solution).
More than 800.000 tons of CO₂ will be captured every year when fully entering in operation around the end of this decade. Heidelberg Materials Antoing will therefore produce clinker (the raw material used to manufacture cement) with a near-zero CO₂ footprint through carbon sequestration.
Thanks to Anthemis, Heidelberg Materials will be able to provide more than 15 million tons of near-zero CO₂ cement to the construction market during the first ten years of the project operation.
Climate change: we're part of the solution
To prevent global climate change, we need to reduce CO₂ emissions. CCS - Carbon Capture & Storage - is a strategic technology for decarbonizing sectors that inevitably emit large quantities of CO₂.
The Anthemis project is an essential contribution to Belgium's transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions. It is perfectly in line with the carbon-neutral objectives that Europe wants to achieve by 2050.
